The Three Rs: Rescue, Rehabilitate, and Rehome

The Three Rs: Rescue, Rehabilitate, and Rehome

Ben the dog: Saved just in time

Ben was spotted lying motionless in a pond, barely holding on to life. He’d fallen into the mosquito-infested water where he’d been trapped for several days. A kind-hearted rescuer found him at the bottom of the steep embankment just in time, as he wouldn’t have lasted another day.

The poor animal was struggling to breathe due to water inhalation and was rushed to our vets, where he was diagnosed with extreme malnutrition, severe dehydration, pneumonia, and blood parasites.

It was touch-and-go for Ben’s first few days in care. But with expert treatment, including intravenous fluids with glucose supplements, antibiotics, and vitamins, as well as medication delivered through nebulizer, Ben was able to breathe easy again. He began to regain weight and muscle and enjoy playing outside with the other dogs in care. Ben made a full recovery and our team found him a new loving home with a local family.

Kiki the kitten: Given a fur-ever home

Kiki was found amongst a busy market, all alone and meowing loudly. Passers-by heard her cries for help and stopped to have a closer look at the dishevelled kitten and found one of her paws to be swollen and smelly. The paw was injured and infected, and she was clearly in a great deal of pain. They brought her to our veterinary centre in India, where the vets discovered the paw could not be saved due to the wound leaving Kiki with a large amount of dead tissue.

Within 24 hours, the expert team had stabilised Kiki and surgically removed her paw to ensure the infection couldn’t spread to the rest of her body. Kiki’s recovery began immediately and was supported by specialised foster carers, the very same couple who rescued her from the streets. Before long, Kiki had made a full recovery. She adjusted well to life on three legs, and a local family fell in love with her, giving her a safe, forever home.
