Lanta Animal Welfare are a non profit charity founded in 2005 and based in South West Thailand, dedicated to improving the lives of all animals, relieving pain and suffering.
WVS are pleased to have supported LAWS on several trips in the past and we are looking for experienced vets and nurses to join them on a mass sterilisation campaign this March working from their mobile clinic around the areas of Ao Nang and Koh Payam.
We are looking for experienced volunteer vets and nurses to join their team to assist on one or both of the campaigns, mostly participating in dog sterilsations operating from the mobile clinic with an average of 80 surgeries conducted a day.
Lanta Animal Welfare are running 2 mass sterilisation projects.
Dates: Surgical days 1st March - 4th/5th March so you will need to arrive on the 28th Feb at the latest. Campaign held in Ao Nang - flights to Krabi needed
Dates: Koh Payam Surgical days 28th March - 1st April. so you will need to arrive by the 27th March and depart the island on the 2nd April. Campaign held in Koh Payam - flights to Ranoung needed (or can travel by road from Krabi)
Volunteers are invited to stay and participate in both campaigns if they wish, or can volunteer on just 1 campaign.
Accommodation and food will be provided for free by Lanta Animal Welfare
Vets must have 5 years post graduation experience and ideally have volunteered on a similar sterilisation campaign and be confident performing spay/neuter surgeries unassisted.
Nurses must have 3 years experience and again ideally volunteered on a similar trip
What to pack
Volunteers should take practical / comfortable clothes to work in e.g (scrubs). If you would like to purchase a WVS scrub top please contact the office or visit our online shop.
- Practical / comfortable clothes to work in (eg. scrubs)
- Wet weather gear and warm clothing for the evenings
- Bug spray
- Ear plugs and eye mask
- Prescriptions & over-the-counter medication (eg. Imodium, Paracetemol etc)
The project may be extremely short on certain supplies and would likely be very grateful for donations. Please get in touch with us to find out if there is anything in particular that would be helpful to bring with you. If you have any spare room in your bag on the outbound flight, it would be highly appreciated if you are able to bring some spare supplies to use during your trip. This is at your discretion and entirely optional.
It is essential that you obtain comprehensive travel insurance for this project which also covers you for veterinary work. We recommend Go Walkabout who offer tailor made travel insurance policies for WVS volunteers. Please note that fully paid members of WVS also receive a 10% discount on Go Walkabout policies.
