WVS works with animal sanctuaries across the globe, supplying them with medicine, equipment and volunteers. Our Charity Support Officer Tess takes a look back at her time visiting the Pan African Sanctuary Alliance ahead of this year’s workshop.
In February 2013 I flew to Cameroon to take part in the Pan African Sanctuary Alliance (PASA) Veterinary workshop. PASA is the largest association of wildlife centers in Africa and supports 22 primate sanctuaries in 13 countries.
Taking part in the workshop provided us with a unique opportunity to network with these 22 primate sanctuaries, learn about the work they are doing to protect and conserve primates across Africa, discovering the challenges they face, the support they need and how WVS could provide assistance. We were also able to provide much needed veterinary supplies and equipment to the veterinary representatives from each of the sanctuaries.
Since this time each of the 22 PASA Member Organisations have become WVS Supported Charities and we aim to help whenever possible with supplies and equipment.
The next PASA workshop will be held in Zambia in September 2017 and we are organising a shipment of further supplies to be distributed to the sanctuaries.
Our continuing support ensures help is provided for the animals who need it most. Why? Because every animal matters.
