No more mites for Melon

In Thailand, our team provide expert care to animals in need at our International Training Centre (ITC) in Chiang Mai, as well as through outreach programmes. Our global ITCs act as hubs for treating thousands of animals every year, as well as providing expert training for both local and international veterinary professionals.

A sweet stray dog named Melon was one of our recent patients who received transformational care, after he was found on the streets in a terrible state.

When Melon was reported to us, we quickly went out to rescue to him and brought him back to our centre for urgently needed treatment. Upon arriving at our clinic, our veterinary team conducted an initial examination and diagnosed him with Demodicosis - a serious skin mite infestation. The condition had caused widespread skin damage and had led to secondary infections.

Sadly, some areas of his skin were so badly affected that they had started to break down and peel off — a painful and devastating state for any dog to endure. On top of that, Melon was also found to be suffering from a blood parasite infection, which further weakened his fragile body.

Our veterinary team did everything possible to treat both the skin disease and the blood parasite, both of which severely impacted his quality of life. Through a combination of medications, supplements, medicated baths, and constant monitoring, Melon has shown remarkable resilience.

Thankfully his condition has significantly improved — the blood parasite is no longer present, and his skin is slowly recovering day by day. We will continue to care for Melon with the utmost dedication until we are confident that he is completely free of any diseases and has a safe and healthy future.
