Expert care for equines and large animals

A lifeline for large animals

Around the world, many equines, livestock and other large animals face a life of hardship, injury, and mistreatment.

There are many factors that affect their wellbeing, from lack of access to veterinary treatment and resources, to widespread lack of experience and knowledge around the care they need. We are working to change this.

The WVS Large Animal teams provide free expert care to equines, farm animals and wildlife around the world, but our work goes far beyond clinical treatment.

A lifeline for large animals

Veterinary Training

Increasing access to quality health care relies on training a workforce of competent, confident veterinary professionals, that can serve areas of the world where these services are currently lacking.

We run practical training courses to share knowledge and review and refine local knowledge and skills, meaning animals can receive the best available care when they need it most, and that effective care can continue in the future. Our teams run training courses in many countries including India, Mozambique, Ethiopia and Chile. Their training extends beyond pure veterinary care, including farriery, harness and husbandry guidelines as well as feeding and behavioural advice.

Working with veterinary universities, WVS ensures that qualifying vets have a holistic, one health approach, so they can approach a varied caseload competently, directly impacting the environment and communities where these animals work and reside.

Owner Education

Our team doesn't just focus on training the next cohort of veterinary professionals, but they also offer guidance and support to owners, empowering them to manage day to day events such as harness fitting and management of wounds.

At many of our clinics, we meet owners who want to do the absolute best for their animal but without the right knowledge and resources, it's exceedingly difficult. By just lending a helping hand, we improve the lives of these animals, and their livelihoods too.

Owner Education

Our large animal teams treated thousands of animals in 2022, but many more need our help. We are expanding our projects in the countries where we are currently working and moving into new areas.
