The Goa Hicks International Training Centre (ITC) was launched in Assagao, Northern Goa by WVS in October 2016. Originally the premises of International Animal Rescue (I.A.R), WVS took over the running and management of the centre in order to provide continuous veterinary care to animals in need.
The Hicks Centre was established by John Hicks back in 2000 in Goa, in order to provide veterinary care, sterilisations and vaccinations against rabies to animals in need. Sadly, John passed away in 2015, leaving a huge legacy of which he and his family can be proud of!
WVS took over the management of the centre in October 2016 with a view to continuing John's incredible legacy and to continue to provide the essential animal welfare that is required in this region. As well as providing veterinary treatment, WVS also provides practical surgical training to Northern Indian vets and local charity workers, promoting best practice techniques in animal welfare.
The vets receive 'hands on' surgical surgery experience through ABC programmes which run at the Hicks ITC. Improving the skills of International and Indian vets as well as making a positive difference within the community. The ITC also offers specialist surgery courses throughout the year as well as animal handling courses to local charity workers.
Our colleagues at Mission Rabies have been working in Goa undertaking vaccination drives for a number of years and have set up permanent vaccination teams there too.
