WVS send veterinary parcels to animal welfare charities who need our help in all areas of the world. Our most recent delivery made it to an amazing charity called War Paws that helps dogs in war-torn Iraq...

It can be easy to forget animals in times of conflict but for former Territorial Army officer and animal welfare hero, Louise Hastie, this certainly isn't the case. After a tour of Iraq in 2004, she set up War Paws to help dogs and cats caught up in the horrors of war...

Louise found herself rescuing cats in Iraq shortly after completing her military service and became well known for her efforts despite so many obstacles. In Afghanistan she designed, and built, three shelters which housed over 100 dogs with a large area for exercise as well as a vet clinic. Louise left Afghanistan in February 2016 to start new path building shelters for animals in other countries where the suffering was immense.

Thanks to our parcel appeal, we were able to send Louise a life-saving parcel of medication, to support her work at the War Paws shelter. Louise supplied some of the supplies to the Kurdish Peshmerga forces who have been battling Islamic State. The British-trained army requested supplies to help de-worm and treat fleas in the stray dogs in the surrounding area.

War Paws are a lifeline to these animals in a place where they have no-one else and we’re glad we can do our part in protecting these dogs.

This medication is vital to improve the welfare of the animals in Iraq and Afghanistan. If you’d like to help us send out more parcels to charities like War Paws, in some of the toughest and most remote areas of the world, please donate to support to our Parcel Appeal.
