Luke's July Update!

Tue 6th Aug 2019

The big news this month has been our birthday celebrations for the Hicks ITC – it’s now three years old!!

To mark this incredible birthday, we placed a remembrance plaque dedicated to John Hicks who has been a pioneering figure in building the animal welfare community in Goa. I’d also like to thank our Patrons Joanna Hicks and Atmaram Fulari, our Chairman Mr Nigel Otter, our Clinical Director Dr Karlette Anne Fernandes and her exceptional Hicks team who have all made the centre the success it is today.

Since August 2016, we’ve managed more than 25,000 sterilisations, over 50,000 vaccinations, 10,000 other treatments, over 4,000 rescues, over 1,000 adoptions and trained more than 1,500 students... with more and more every day!! WHAT A TEAM!!!!!!!!

One of our Indian vets presented at the APCRI conference on the inclusion of dog vaccination programmes within existing government-led health programmes in the Nilgiris and was awarded a prize in recognition of the work! Congratulations to the whole Ooty team for this!

We also welcomed Rilian to the world – the newest colt to be born at IPAN. He was born without any problems which was a great relief considering his mother underwent surgery only three months ago!

Our amazing Thai team have been continually driving things forward. Their big achievement this month has been another fun run - almost 1,000 runners took to the streets of Chiang Mai to support the dogs and it was incredible to see the local community getting behind us.

Parcels and Teams

An epic 106 parcels sent out this month, valuing £74,768.40!!

The ITCs have been running on full power - three courses in Ooty, two in Thailand and two in Goa!! We’ve also had teams out to Tanzania, Grenada, Malawi, Armenia, Botswana, South Africa and Peru.

Other news

We’ve had a huge number of local talks and fairs this summer, raising money and spreading the word about WVS!!

We’re also driving forward some exciting projects where we can really champion working animals in tough places. Watch this space!! If you want to help us be there for animals in need, join us as a member and together, we can be the difference!
