Exciting Vet Nurse Bursary Scheme Launched for 2019

Wed 17th Oct 2018

Introducing the newest opportunity for vet nurses to get involved with an exciting WVS project! The WVS Vet Nurse Bursary is open to eligible vet nurses to join one of eight incredible projects when they would not usually have the chance to volunteer abroad.

There are eight bursaries available during 2019 (one per allocated project) with each bursary covering the costs of up to £1,000 for return flights, accommodation and meals. Any visas, vaccinations and travel insurance for the trip will need to be covered by the successful applicants.

If you are a vet nurse who fits the criteria below, you could be volunteering at one of the three WVS International Training Centres in Goa, Ooty or Thailand; you could be supporting our working equine project or the small animal clinic at the BSPCA in Malawi; or you could be supporting the teams at our associated projects with AR Sofia in Bulgaria, Save the Dogs in Romania or Maun Animal Welfare Society in Botswana. Although preference for a partcular project will be taken into account, it cannot be guaranteed.

So what do you need to do in order to apply? In order to be eligible for the vet nurse bursary you must:

  • have a minimum of three years post-graduate experience
  • have not been on a WVS volunteering trip before
  • confirm your vet practice is signed up to the WVS Vet Practice Membership Scheme (all vet practices are eligible to submit multiple applications)
  • be available to volunteer for a minimum of 10 days (for some projects a minimum of two weeks will be required)
  • provide WVS with a trip report and images within seven days of returning home and complete a trip feedback questionnaire.  Upon receipt of this feedback bursary expenses will be refunded.

If you'd like to apply for the 2019 bursaries and you fulfil all of the above critiria then all you need to do next is email your CV along with a covering letter to [email protected] or post it to us at 4 Castle Street, Cranborne, Dorset, BH21 5PZ. Application for the bursary does not guarantee success but our projects team will be in touch upon receiving all applications! We look forward to seeing many more vet nurses on our projects!
