WVS Vets Treat Record Number of Animals at Thai Outreach Clinic

This October, the WVS Thailand team travelled to the northern part of Sukhothai province to set up and conduct a mass sterilization clinic alongside Boon Lott Elephant Sanctuary, pushing forward with elephant conservation and education as well as general veterinary care for sick local animals.

The weather was against them but the team remained undeterred. On some days, the team experienced extremely heavy rain and cold winds, but the next day would be back to 37 degrees in the direct sunlight! Yet, come rain or shine, the team were able to keep the operations going in the surgical room, smashing their previous records for the clinics.

In just six days of surgery, an incredible 312 cats and dogs were sterilised and vaccinated against rabies, contributing to a much healthier animal population. Aside from the sterilisations, our vets examined all the animals brought in to the clinic by their owners seeking help. This provided a vital community service and also offered our junior vets practical experience in treating a range of cases.

Thanks to regular clinics at Boon Lott, the animal population are much healthier and our vets continue to provide support where possible to ensure this continues into the future!
